There will be additional awards for Southern California league invitational tournament participants this year. There will be a set of individual speaker awards for students in their first year of debating. They are meant to recognize the accomplishment of students with no prior debate or public speaking experience.

Students with middle school debate (any format) or other competitive speech experience (extemporaneous speaking, interpretive events, etc.) are not eligible for these awards.

When registering teams for a tournament, please place an “N” prior to the name of any eligible student. Novice students do not debate in their own division, as that wold slow their public speaking, argumentation, and debate skill development. They compete with all other students but are recognized for their accomplishments with their peers.
