The names and logos of national debate and discussion outreach leagues (e.g., Pacific Coast Debate League, East Bay Debate League, Big Apple Debate League, Crescent City Debate League) may not be used without specific, written prior permission.

SERVICEMARK AND TRADEMARK NOTICE

National debate and discussion outreach and professional communication programs and leagues do not support the use of their logos, names, format models, servicemarks and trademarks, or images in marketing, promotional or advertising materials as their use may create the perception of endorsement or sponsorship of programs, products, promotions, publications, services, formats, seminars, tournaments, or conferences.

For use of national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league copyrighted or trademarked material in third party works (e.g., books, publications or media/broadcast, advertisements), please email your detailed request to john.meany@cmc.edu and include the following:

• Specific image(s) or material for which you are seeking permission

• Publisher and Publishing date (and countries), if applicable

• Your deadline

These guidelines are for licensees, designated and chartered member leagues, and other parties wishing to use national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league trademarks, servicemarks, logos, or images in promotional, advertising, instructional, or reference materials, or on their web sites, products, labels, or packaging. Use of national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league trademarks, servicemarks, logos, or images for commercial purposes without prior written consent may constitute trademark infringement and unfair competition in violation of federal and state laws and applicable international treaties. Use of servicemarks or trademarks may be prohibited, unless expressly authorized.

By using a national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league servicemark or trademark, in whole or in part, you are acknowledging that the authors are the sole owner of the servicemark or trademark and promising that you will not interfere with their rights in the servicemark or trademark, including challenging their use, registration of, or application to register such servicemark or trademark, alone or in combination with other words, anywhere in the world, and that you will not harm, misuse, or bring into disrepute any of their servicemarks or trademarks. The goodwill derived from using any part of a national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league servicemark or trademark exclusively inures to the benefit of and belongs to the authors. Except for the limited right to use as expressly permitted under these guidelines, no other rights of any kind are granted hereunder, by implication or otherwise.

Only national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program staff and their authorized agents and licensees may use their trademarks, servicemarks, logos, or images in advertising, promotional, and sales materials. Other parties may note that their product, service, seminar, or conference is compatible with one or more national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication programs and leagues, provided they comply with the following requirements:

• The word mark is used in a referential phrase, such as “for use with” or “for,” (e.g., for use with HSPDP programming).

• The national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league graphic symbol, logo, icon or image does not appear on or in the publication or on any materials related to the product, format, seminar, tournament, or conference without express written prior permission.

• The product or service is, in fact, compatible with the referenced national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league, including, but not limited to, personnel certification, rubric, and standards-based instructional guidelines.

• The reference to a national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league does not create an endorsement, sponsorship, or false association with one or more national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication programs or services. A disclaimer of sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement, similar to the following, must be included on the publication and on all related printed or online materials: “(Title) is an independent (publication, product, service, format, seminar, tournament, conference) and has not been authorized, sponsored, or otherwise approved by (name of national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program, e.g., the Middle School Public Debate Program (MSPDP).”

• The use of the word mark does not show a national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league in a false or derogatory manner.

• A servicemark or trademark attribution notice is included in the credit section giving notice of ownership of national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league servicemark(s) or trademark(s).

Unauthorized Use of Servicemarks and Trademarks

1. You may not use any national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league name, graphic symbol, logo, or icon on or in connection with web sites, products, packaging, manuals, promotional/advertising materials, or for any other purpose except pursuant to an express prior written trademark license, such as an official league membership agreement.

2. You may not use any other variation of national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league name, trademarks, servicemarks, logos, or images for any purpose. Third parties cannot use a variation, phonetic equivalent, foreign language equivalent, takeoff, or abbreviation for any purpose.

3. You may not use national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league names, trademarks, servicemarks, logos, or images in a manner that would imply affiliation with or endorsement, sponsorship, or support of a third party product, publication, format service, seminar, tournament, or conference.

4. You may not manufacture, sell or give-away merchandise items, such as T-shirts and mugs, bearing national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league names, symbols, logos, or icons, except pursuant to an express written servicemark or trademark license. You may not use or imitate a national debate and discussion outreach and professional communication program and league slogan or tagline.
