2018 HSPDP Championship Invitation

You are cordially invited to the 2018 High School Public Debate Program (HSPDP) Championship Tournament. This is the final official competitive event for the 2017-2018 HSPDP tournament calendar year. Tournament registration is open.

The tournament will be held at Rim of the World High School, Lake Arrowhead, CA. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Rim+of+the+World+High+School/@34.2319305,-117.2093145,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x80c3564e2f212205:0x122f3a12cf1dd542!8m2!3d34.2319305!4d-117.2071258?hl=en

CONGRATULATIONS to all the students participating at HSPDP events this year. The HSPDP is a volunteer-supported program. THANK YOU to the teachers, parents, college students, and community volunteers for extraordinary support for debate programming. The contributions of volunteers ensure that hundreds of students have the opportunity to learn and practice sophisticated public speaking, critical thinking, research, listening, argumentation, and refutation skills.

Registration Fees Eligible HSPDP schools may register for the tournament. An eligible school has (1) registered in an HSPDP league and (2) paid annual HSPDP dues ($25) and, for Southern California schools, annual league registration fees ($500).

There is a $75 fee per school for the championship tournament. There is no limit on team entries at this time. Championship tournament registration fee payment is to “Claremont McKenna College.” An invoice is available online, at highschooldebate.org.

Judging Registering schools need to have sufficient HSPDP-certified judging for their entries. There is no judge certification training during the championship tournament. If this is a challenge, please contact John Meany, john.meany@cmc.edu.

Travel – Air Travel Information: If you are arriving by air, you should make arrangements to arrive at LA/Ontario Airport if possible (formerly named “Ontario Airport” but to add to confusion for travelers, the Los Angeles Airport Authority has added “Los Angeles” to all regional airports under its control – LA/Ontario Airport is NOT LAX!)…The airport is in the City of Ontario, is about 40 miles from Lake Arrowhead.

Accommodation Information There are excellent hotels and values in Lake Arrowhead, noted on myriad websites.

Email registration Entries are accepted exclusively by email. To register, please send an email with the subject line “HSPDP Registration – Championship” to Jessica Fisher, HSPDP Southern California League President, jfisher@webb.org. List team members and certified judges. For more details on registration for events, please go to highschooldebate.org.

Information is included in the online championship tournament details, highschooldebate.org. https://highschooldebate.org/2018/03/30/minors-policy-sw-regional-and-hspdp-championships
