The Claremont Colleges Debate Union/Claremont McKenna College hosts annual debate and leadership/professional communication instruction summer sessions for secondary school students.
The 2018 Claremont Summer programs feature debate training in the high school and middle school Public Debate Program format. In addition, high school students may participate in a leadership/professional communication session – it mirrors professional public speaking and undergraduate leadership communication training, including extemporaneous speaking, roundtable discussion, interviewing, essay writing, and PowerPoint/Prezi multimedia presentation. It includes an academic conference, with competitive awards for top papers and presentations.
New to 2018 – there are leadership communication programs for middle school students. This is an age-appropriate adaptation of the summer high school program, with much of the same oral and written communication training for academic and career success.
