I am pleased to announce that the Southwest Regional Debate Championship, one of 6 planned regional tournaments for the 2018 Middle School Public Debate Program (MSPDP) National Championship, is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2018.
The event will be held at Mt. San Antonio College, Walnut, CA. Although room availability is still being negotiated, this site has the opportunity to be the largest MSPDP tournament ever held. The tournament has the full support of the college’s Office of the President and Director of Speech and Debate.
The goal for 2018 is to have all regional tournaments finish by Saturday, May 5. This would allow sufficient time in the school year for each of the regional champions to travel to Claremont McKenna College for the MSPDP National Championship. That tournament would use a round-robin format, in which each of the participating teams will debate all other contestants to determine the 2018 national champion.
